As I said before, I feel like the Dracula myth has been pretty well told and reworked in so many different ways that I wanted to branch out into other areas to tell some of those great vampire stories. I think becoming too comfortable with a genre makes it too predictable and understanding the mechanisms of a horror universe sucks the dread right out. In seeking to understand something mysterious, we seek out power over the unknown. I think readers have too much power in the vampire genre. It is a great big world and we are very small. It would be foolish to assume we know everything. So, I hope Hotaru has some surprises. I hope you have to guess at what is coming because it means that the unknown has returned.

Sooo… yeah… Hotaru’s tattoo is now peeling off her back. That’s a thing that just happened. See you next week.
